# If you could design the human mind...
## How would we be?

Fearless? Motivated? Calculated? Cultured?

> But how would you do it?

## We have a blank canvas

Let’s take a rather engineering-inspired approach and see how our *ideal* mind looks like if we were to build it just for that.

### The obvious

We need a basis:
1. Somewhere to store information
2. Something to interpret the information
3. Something to translate to commands for the body

Memory. Processor. Translator. **MPT** for short.
We can assume memory is **practically** infinite and fast access, the processor is **fast enough** and the translator works say **at least 85%** of the time.

Perfect, let’s add features now.

### Cultured

First, we want this mind to be cultured, so let’s take the important information, cherry-pick it carefully and preload it to the memory, right?
**The** important information? What is that?
Important to who? To me? To you? To both of us?
Important when? Now? Next year? Next decade? Yesterday?

What you or I deem important and necessary knowledge may not be what someone in a vastly different living environment deems so. In fact, it most likely will not be.

So okay, let’s do the engineer-thing to do and find the compromise, let’s throw in a mix of survival skills, history knowledge, some maths and physics, some medicine, some sport, some literature, some art and some music, that should be good enough. We have more storage to work with than our current finite minds could store either way.

### Calculated

Now, let’s focus on sharpness, being a strategist and being able to predict outcomes is a desirable skill. This is after all, a pattern recognition problem. The M in MPT gives us the space to store pattern information so we have to hand it to the P. Our processor.

But our processor is at the same time responsible for interpreting the incomplete real-time information from many other directions, sometimes contradictory. We are designing the mind not the outside world, it should be able to withstand it. We can solve this by adding multiple threads to our processor, something our current *‘multi-tasking’* trends could only dream about. Let’s say we add N threads, where N is a big number.

We can dedicate N/2 of those threads to purely, continuously process and try to look for patterns, dedicate N/4 threads to imagining future outcomes, and that leaves us with a *breathable* N/4 threads for margin of error, critical situations, etc. because every thought in MPT is pattern based and 75% of P already handles everything normally.

However, what our P does not have is infinite power, so however big that N is, there is always a P-Ultra with N*N threads, and if our thinking is entirely determined by the calculations of P, and the known set of memory we gave it, P-Ultra can out-calculate P any time, any day, any way…*just a thought*.

### Motivated

Good, so we have a cultured, calculated	mind. But in order for it to act, it needs motivation.
Motivation means I want something, I’m willing to do uncomfortable stuff to get it, sometimes for prolonged periods of time. It has the activation part, the spark, and the part that keeps the spark alive.

We can add a *flint* the processor can call upon that activates the remaining N/4 threads in P and continuously tasks them with achieving a given goal. However, the additional power these threads take should be pre accounted for, otherwise they’ll hit the instability problem, letting the spark die. So let’s add a tunnel vision switch, to kill power to these things called *feelings*, they just break predictability and induce bias.

### Fearless

Lastly, let’s make sure it always acts in its best interest and is fearless. Courage, right?
No, not courage, it’s not practical, courage means feeling fear first and then deciding to act. Why feel it in the first place?
It’s *wasteful*. See, here good engineering from before comes back to help us. Let’s **not** make a tunnel vision switch, let’s make it permanent, nothing to feel, nothing to fear, no need for courage. It is fearless by default.

## Let’s assemble

As we’ve added features, I think it grew on us, yes we might have started skeptical, but this is ultimately **the ideal mind**, why doubt it?
This is the peak of what *we* all should be, the same?
So, then why multiple of us?
It’s *wasteful*. Currently we mostly need to collaborate to cover up for imperfect minds.
With this perfect mind one is enough, for it does not need anyone else, it has the ideal mind.

It’s ~~fearless~~ - emotionless, ~~motivated~~ - it has no choice, ~~calculated~~ - predictable, ~~cultured~~ - informed (it did not choose what to know, it knew).
It is sufficient, and it is alone. It can do anything, but it doesn’t need to, so it does nothing. It knows it’s the best, because we told it that, but it didn’t have the limitations others did.
Strive to be like it, like we wanted it to be, but never be it. Because it’s those limitations that we so blatantly removed that give any value to having the prized qualities.

For there is no culture without choice, no strategy without the unpredictable, no motivation without purpose and no courage without fear.
You **can** design your mind, it’s moldable, it’s timeless, MPT is not.
Flaws are what make us the biggest liability, but they are also what create something worth protecting from the liability.
